Now is the Time.....Immediate Stuff!!!!
....As I brandish the off-switch.....
This isn't meant to be flippant, but since you are actually looking at a computer right now, you are uncomfortably close to the whole Internet addiction scenario. Maybe be you just can't tear yourself away? This page looks at ways of breaking off from the behaviour - just like that. Hopefully it helps....but remember....these suggestions (apart from the last two!) are largely superficial 'technical fixes': they might help in the short term, but they don't really address the deeper issues - see the Meaning page for more on this - temporary improvement might lull you into a false sense of complacency.
Sit in a calm place and let your head clear. Let the cravings subside.
Sort out your computer: maybe you can install filtering software? You can check this out on http://www.filterreview.com. Unfortunately filtering software can claim only a limited success, since there are sometimes technical tricks to outwit the filter.
Place the computer and its screen in a more public part of your home.
Remove the Internet connection?..Remove problem sites from your 'Favorites'(Bookmarks), or from the Desktop; clear your internet history, search history etc or better still...clear your hard drive thoroughly.Block problem email addresses: many commercial 'porn newsletter/update' type emails provide an opt-out link, enabling you to sever the connection to your account. One way of dealing with problem incoming email is to try the approach found on hiddenmickeys. Each email provider has its own approach to fighting spam (usually using filters), or you could download an email blocking programme (search for this in Google).
Remove instant messaging software. On Windows...go to Start/ Control Panel/ Add or Remove Programmes/ and click on the software that you want removed. On other Operating Systems it will be a similar procedure.
Sort out your phone: remove problem numbers from your phonebook (and call records). Ask your telephone provider to block problem incoming calls.
For mobile phone users - don't discard your SIM card (since the phone number on it will eventually get reused) but likewise remove or block (and reblock!) problem numbers. If you are hooked into porn texting services, follow the procedure to stop the service (eg texting 'stop' to the provider) Increasingly now, mobile phones carry internet and email capacity, as well as texting, so you may need to think about buying a cheap and cheerful phone without the extras. Don't carry it around with you for a few months, to create some distance.
Listen - maybe dance - to some moving music: it helps shift your emotions.
Put aside any technology you are using and go for a good walk: physical exercise always helps.
Talk confidentially with a trusted friend about your compulsive/addictive behaviour. They may not be able to advise you, but at least you have shared a burden with them, and they can hopefully offer some support.
Pray.....to That which is beyond all this shit!
